Welcome

The Club
Hi,
I’m Sasha, your Boat Club President this year, and I’m so excited to welcome you to our club.
As a better rower than me once said, happy rowers = fast rowers. And that’s the aim of UCLBC. Happy = Fast. We’re all about serious fun, or fun seriousness, depending on which way you’d like to look at it.
Rowers often wear Oakleys, wellies, and purple unisuits – which make us look so cool, we can’t even hear you making fun of us. When not training, we are most regularly found asleep, eating large quantities of food, or attending an – overblown – social of some kind.
UCLBC has been such a crucial part of my university experience thus far, with friends and experiences that I will treasure for a lifetime, and I would love to create this for many more UCL students. As a committee, we hope to promise the 24/25 season will slay even more than it does now!
The Season Ahead
Over the last 5 years, we’ve regularly qualified boats for Henley Women’s and Henley Royal Regattas, and we hope to continue this legacy. For our novices, BUCS Head and BUCS Regatta are the events of the year, with a 7th place finish at BUCS Head for our NM in 2023, and 11th for our NW in 2022.
Although qualification did not go our way this year, we sent 13 athletes to Henley Women’s qualifiers this year, who put in a strong performance to round out the rowing calendar. Having already achieved an excellent 14th place finish at BUCS Head, and won the Club 8s pennant at Hammersmith Head, we’re confident the coming year holds great things for the women’s squad.
Our senior men took a solid 18th place finish at BUCS Head, and a solid performance at HoRR, which we look to build on in the coming year. With record numbers of novices beginning their rowing journey and moving-on to our seniors squads, I have absolute faith that the coming year will be bigger and better for UCLBC.
While we’re not always the top club results-wise, we more than make up for it in vibes. Anyone and everyone are welcome at UCLBC, whether you’re looking to row occasionally for some fitness and time in the sun or looking to dig deep and win some silverware!
