You may have noticed the additional sprouting of moustaches on the male members of UCLBC this month, ranging from impressive, full and thick taches to somewhat questionable wisps. And you have probably wondered why such good-looking chaps would subject themselves to looking a little bit, well… silly for a month. You have probably heard talk of ‘Movember’, though perhaps not been quite sure of exactly what it’s all about. So, here’s the deal; every year, during November, men all over the world grow themselves a mo with the aim of raising vital funds and awareness for prostate and testicular cancer. The rules state that each Mo Bro must begin Movember with a clean-shaven face, and grow and groom their moustache for the entire month. Simple, right? That is unless your mo-growing abilities don’t quite match your fellow Mo Bros or meet expectations of how you imagine your own manliness.

This year, UCL Boat Club have been getting actively involved with Movember. We began the month with a moustache shaped pub-crawl around SoHo; girls and boys alike sported sharpie-drawn moustaches, as we threw away our razors and shaving-foam and bid farewell to clean-shaven faces. Then, as the 1^st became the 2^nd and the 2^nd became the 10^th, faces evolved from the clean and seemingly innocent to the seldom rugged, often questionable and sometimes disturbing. Now, as we enter the final stretch (rowing pun intended) and may be secretly feeling saddened by the impending removal of those tasteful taches, we will celebrate the best way we know how. Wednesday the 28^th of November will see all UCL Mo Bros and Sistas unite at Loop Bar, SoHo for one impressive Movember after-party. Whether or not you have enjoyed seeing additional facial hair on the male population this month, you can’t deny that our Mo Bros have done us proud, raising funds and awareness for men’s health. So come along, invite all your friends – this isn’t just a Boat Club event, but a chance to try somewhere new on Sports Nite without having to queue for hours – and it’s only a fiver! Let’s all unite, celebrate and thank our Mo Bros whilst supporting a great cause.
