University College London Boat Club was founded in 1864, and since then it has strived to hold its key values of hard work, dedication, teamwork, success, and of course, enjoyment! Recent years have seen the Club go from strength to strength, with both the Women and Men's Senior teams finishing this year's summer season by qualifying at the prestigious Henley Women's Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta.
We offer top class coaching and excellent facilities to everyone; Men and Women, Seniors and
Novices. Whether you have 10 years or 10 minutes of previous rowing experience, we will
aim to help you achieve your full potential.
We row two times a week out of the University of London Boathouse in Chiswick, with the
rest of the week’s training taking place in the UCL gym. We are coached by 4 time Henley winner, Leander and team GB oarsman, Tom
Wilkinson; 2 time Commonwealth Championship winner and Leander oarsman, Alan Sinclair; and
Paralympic bronze medal winning cox, Alan “Woody” Sherman.
People with previous experience will enter our Senior teams. The main aim for these
crews will to qualify for Henley Royal Regatta and Women’s Henley. Those who have never
tried their hand at the sport before will enter the Novice or Intermediate squads. We place
great importance in our novices and we aim to give you a solid foundation on which to
build on as an oarsman.
We are always on the lookout for new coxes – there are several opportunities for coxswains
depending on ability, and we are always happy to hear from male or female coxes.
This is a hugely social club, and all the hours of training we put in are matched by our
nights out! Weekly sports nights every Wednesday ensure a healthy dose of carnage, and
our black-tie dinners and post-race socials are not to be missed. The club is a great
way to meet new people, make new friends, and ensure you make the most out of your
years at UCL.
Rowing is what you make of it. Whether you want to race Olympic Champions, get fit,
or simply try something new, UCLBC is the way to do it whilst having the time of your life
in the process!
